The value of integrating Scan-to-BIM and Scan-vs-BIM techniques for construction monitoring using laser scanning and BIM: The case of cylindrical MEP components

چکیده
10 There is a growing need for tools automating the processing of as-built 3D laser scanned data, and more 11 particularly the comparison of this as-built data with planned works. This paper particularly considers 12 the case of tracking MEP components with circular cross-sections, which essentially include pipes, and 13 some conduits and ducts. Discrepancies between the as-built and as-planned status of pipes, conduit 14 and ductwork result from changes that occur in the field and that are either unnoticed (human error) or 15 not reflected in the 3D model. Previous research has shown that the Hough transform, with judiciously 16 applied domain constraints, is a practical and cost-effective approach to find, recognize and reconstruct 17 cylindrical MEP works within point clouds automatically. Previous research has also shown that “Scan18 vs-BIM” systems that are based on the geometric alignment and comparison of as-built laser scans with 19 as-designed BIM models can effectively recognize and identify MEP components as long as they are 20

The limitation of land in big cities has caused the vertical growth of cities; for example, high-rise buildings on the ground and underground urban facilities can be mentioned. This restriction has increased the value of land in cities, and on the other hand, it has created some new and complicated technical and legal aspects in the cadastral issues. To respond to these new technical and legal ...

The online observation of a construction site and processes bears significant advantage to all business sector. BIM is the combination of a 3D model of the project and a project-planning program which improves the project planning model by up to 6D (Adding Time, Cost and Material Information dimensions to the model). RFID technology is an appropriate information synchronization tool between the...

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملReducing rework and increasing the civil projects quality, through Total Quality Management (TQM), by using the concept of building information modeling (BIM)
One of the important problems in the field of Construction Industry is ‘rework’. It affects time, costs, quality, and almost every criteria of project success. As a result of rework and ineffective use of resources and materials in the workshops, there is always a considerable loss of resources, materials, investments, and workforce-time. Designing and planning through full awareness of clients...
متن کاملMobile Laser Scanning for Indoor Modelling
The process of capturing and modelling buildings has gained increased focus in recent years with the rise of Building Information Modelling (BIM). At the heart of BIM is a process change for the construction and facilities management industries whereby a BIM aids more collaborative working through better information exchange, and as a part of the process Geomatic/Land Surveyors are not immune f...
